Are You a Disaster Tourist?

Poverty is a condition in which a person or community is deprived of, or lacks the essentials for a minimum standard of well being and life, including food, clothing, shelter and safe drinking water, but also intangibles such as the opportunity to learn and to enjoy the respect of fellow students.

Here is a website I found that goes into a great explanation of living in poverty, to see it, click here

Poverty is a problem that surrounds every community, society and country.  While many people try to deal with poverty outside of their countries in third world countries, they forget to focus on the poverty inside of their own. There are many local families that suffer from poverty everyday and they go unnoticed.

Broken People

I think we should take a look into our communities and help those who are suffering from poverty.  Anyone can be poor, even though they don’t show it.  Sure the third world countries need the help, but it isn’t right to ignore the problems that are in our own society.

Hey steph, I like your new layout!

I definitely agree with poverty being an issue, because you see it every day on t.v. through commercials. Children in third world countries are dying because their parents can’t afford food, they don’t get an education, and have to drink polluted water. This is a major concern everyone in the world needs to be more aware of, however you are right that it is also important to localize your help.

I found it interesting that you said there is poverty around us, even though you don’t always see it. I think lots of people are living way better off than some, but that doesn’t mean life is easy. Even just having people in debt is an issue, because there are missed opportunities and unnecessary stresses that go along with that.

However, poverty isn’t the only issue out there. I think it is an extremely important one, but it isn’t something that is affecting the entire world population. Something more like global warming, that isn’t exactly a cause that people can raise funds for, is also important. It isn’t just about helping the people, its about changing their environments as well. Great blog entry!
